Doing Good Work With Understanding and Love

The Humane Society of Greater Miami Adopt-A-Pet is much MORE than an animal shelter.  Did you know that they provide temporary house for approximately 2,000 animals looking for loving homes?  I met some of the employees who work for the Humane Society and they do their work with understanding and love.  The Humane Society of Greater Miami is dedicated to placing every dog and cat into a loving home, promoting responsible pet ownership programs, and offering an array of helpful animal services.  The Society is extremely dedicated to ending pet over populatin by providing quality adoption services and low-cost spaying and neutering.  They also provide services in pet grooming, pet loss support, humane education, volunteer programs, and more.  They even have a special adoption and education center for Greyhounds!

One day . . .

Picture
. . . all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.  That is the mission of Teach For America.

Teach For America and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) in Miami, Florida have a partnership to make this a reality.  Thanks to help from the school district and community friends, we aim to reach that goal sooner than later.  The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's support, and their $6 million dollar grant donation, is helping to bring down the costs of this mission.  You can help too.  Donate today - www.teachforamerica.org

Teach For America recruits top college graduates in all academic majors to teach for two years.  By the 2014 school year, M-DCPS will have 350 teachers helping 25,000 Miami-Dade students from elementary to senior high school.

These Teach For America teachers are enthusiastic and inspiring.  They make learning fun.  I try to visit the Teach For America teachers who teach at MIami Central Senior whenever I go there to work with my classmates.  They are my friends.

Urban Search and Rescue Team

Picture
Miami Lighthouse for the Blind Dog Walk
My friends from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Urban Search and Rescue Team went to Haiti.  They are a team of Golden Retrievers who go into fallen and crumbled buildings looking for people who are still living and need help.  When they find living people they alert the rescue workers and then the rescue workers go in, find the survivors, and try to get them out of the fallen buildings safely.

"When you're up on the moon looking back at earth, all the differences and nationalistic traits blend and you get a concept that maybe this is really one world... and why can't we learn to live together like decent people?"
Frank Borman
