Learn About Respect - Honor Others
I have been thinking of the meaning of respect. Respect means to be courteous and polite to others (people and pets); recognize the value of all people and pets (we are all unique); and treat others the way that you like to be treated.
To respect others you need two things:
listening skills
kindness
I pay close attention to others when they speak to me. I consider everyone to be very important and worthy of being honored. This is what respect means to me.

We can change the world one smile at a time.
R E S P E C T
The definition of respect is the acknowledgment that someone or something has value. We may not agree with someone or what they say but we must always respect them.
Treating others with respect makes your world a nicer place to live in, whether it's at home, at school, or out in your community. it is really not that hard to do. All you have to do is treat people the way you like to have them treat you.
Do you know how to show respect? Here are a few ideas.
Smile.
Make eye contact and listen to others when they speak. You hear people say to pay attention, right? This is the best way to pay attention. Look and listen, and give others time to say what they want to say.
Value other people's opinions. (Show that you care about them.)
Be considerate of people's likes and dislikes. (Be fair and try not to judge others too much.)
Don't mock (make fun of), insult, or tease people or pets.
Don't talk about people behind their backs.
Be sensitive to other people's thoughts and feelings.
Try to learn something from the other person.
Don't pressure someone to do something he or she doesn't want to do.
Treating others with respect is very important. We live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds. That kind of variety can make all our lives a lot more fun and interesting, but only if we get along with each other. To get along with others we have to respect each other and be “real” about it.
More Activities
Think about these questions.
What is your definition of respect?
Who do you know who treats others with respect?
How do you feel when someone treats you with respect?
How can you show that you respect others?
Time to write.
Write about a time when you did not show someone respect. Why did it happen? Was it the right thing to do? What were the consequences? How did it make the other person/pet feel? What did you learn from this experience?
Describe three things you could do to be a more respectful person. How would that affect your relationships with others? How does it help you to be a respectful person?

Think of Someone You Respect
Think of one person in your life who you respect. Maybe you are thinking about your mom, dad, or other family member. Maybe you are thinking of one of your friends or a teacher. Think about why you chose that person. What is it about them that has earned your respect?
Think of the qualities of that person. Are they leaders who are kind and understanding? Do they strive for excellence in all they do? Are they reliable? If these are the qualities that you like and respect in others, then they are the qualities that you can strive to achieve in yourself.
